Most probably if you encounter any Fund Manager/Portfolio Manager who is holding any professional designation in Technical Analysis, there is very high chances that he would be having one of these:
1. CMT 2. CFTe
While going through the roads to using Technical Analysis for my complete investing and trading during my capital market journey, I had been facing multiple questions in my head that from where can I learn this art or you may say, from where I can learn mastering Technical Analysis because if I ever wanted to become proficient in marketing, I could have done M.B.A. from top B-Schools of the world or if I wanted to become a top professional in medical line, I could have done my M.S. or M.B.B.S. from any worldwide reputed university which constantly delivers world’s best surgeons but when it came to learning Technical Analysis in a complete professional way, I couldn’t find one except ‘Courses being sold by unprofessionals on YouTube’.
In this post, I will tell you about two of the best courses you can enroll yourself to master the subject of Technical Analysis and most probably if you encounter any Fund Manager/Portfolio Manager who is holding any professional designation in Technical Analysis, there is very high chances that he would be having one of these.
These courses are:
- C.M.T. – Chartered Market Technician by CMT Association, U.S.A. (earlier known as MTA Association)
- CFTe – Certified Financial Technician by IFTA (I&II)
CMT – CMT is a technical analyst designation which you can get, if you successfully enroll yourself in the Chartered Market Technician course and complete all three levels (Level I – easiest, Level II – Toughest, Yes! and Level III – Very Tough).
You can also get CMT Charter designation, if you complete all these levels and also have professional experience in relevant field for at least 3 Years. The professional experience may vary, the main gist is that you will have to convince CMT Association that whatever you are doing professionally, Technical Analysis is helping you delivering quality advises to clients in investing/trading.

CMT vs CFTe – CMT vs CFTe is a question which many of the aspirants ask me or even many professionals who have one of these degrees sometimes think of themselves that whether they should enroll themselves in another one. I had personally seen many professionals who have CMT and CFTe degree both.
The simple answer to this question is – ‘If you want to learn everything in detail without having much emphasis on quants – go for CMT designation’ or ‘If you want some quant driven Technical Analysis knowledge and complete Technical Analysis degree in 6 months lesser time, then go for CFTe designation.’
|| Pro Tip: If you want to land yourself in a Technical Analysis oriented job, just go for CMT designation as it will help you network with worldwide candidates as well as many CMT Charters whom you can get in touch with whenever you want. ||
